Mayor’s letter
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
~John Quincy Adams
For the second year in a row, we have been blessed with uncommonly warm weather for a Chicago winter. This is great for the City of Darien, as reductions in plowing save money that can be dedicated to future capital projects such as repaving roads, repairing ditches to eliminate stormwater problems and fixing sidewalks. We hope this good fortune continues to allow us flexibility in our ongoing budget discussions, which started on Feb. 19.
The Citizen of the Year award is one of my favorite programs of the year because I either meet a wonderful new person who has contributed to the community or learn more about the good deeds of friends I already know. This year the Citizen of the Year Committee selected someone that everyone knows: Cathy Marchese. Cathy has been a leader in the community and a volunteer with so many organizations it is difficult to list them all. From Darien’s first recycling committee, to District 63, PADS, Our Lady of Peace, the Darien Historical Society, Women’s Club, Chamber of Commerce, DarienFest, Darien Youth Club, Hinsdale South High School, American Cancer Society and the Darien Lions Club, Cathy has either been a member or volunteer who has made an impact in so many different aspects of life in Darien. If you are one of the few people in Darien to not have the pleasure of meeting her, you have benefited from her hard work in our schools and local volunteer organizations.
This year we have developed a survey for the City of Darien to evaluate our services and get feedback on issues important to residents. We appreciate those who responded with the last Neighbors magazine. The survey is ongoing; please visit darien.il.us and help us by filling it out. We would like your opinions and suggestions! Also feel free to call City Administrator Bryon Vana at 630-353-8114.
Respectfully,
Kathleen Weaver
City of Darien, Mayor
