Mayor’s letter

Mayor Kathleen Weaver

Mayor Kathleen Weaver

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

I  would like to thank City of Darien residents for passing the referendum allowing the City of Darien to aggregate their electrical usage to allow us to bid electric rates. This beneficial program is projected to save all of Darien over $1 million during the first year.  We have expedited the program and you will begin seeing savings on your bills this summer.  Programs such as these allow us to be advocates for our residents and provide them value for supporting our community.

I am also pleased to announce the City of Darien has agreed with Wal-Mart to expand their current store into a Wal-Mart Supercenter. While parts of the deal are not perfect, it keeps the highest revenue generating business in our community, generating consumer traffic for other businesses and supporting our local government. Losing Wal-Mart to another nearby community would have cost the community approximately $1 million annually, which would force reductions in services that make Darien such a “Nice Place To Live.”
If you have any questions or suggestions for the City of Darien, please feel free to contact Bryon Vana, City Administrator, at 630-353-8114.

Respectfully,

Kathleen Weaver
City of Darien, Mayor
