Mayor’s letter
“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.”
~ Rosalynn Carter
I hope you and your family enjoyed a safe and relaxing holiday season. Many of you took part in our annual holiday lights decorating contest and free holiday lights tour. I am proud that we were able to come together as a community and celebrate the season. I am also proud of the Municipal Services Department, which has done an exceptional job keeping our roads clear and safe during snow storms.
Deputy Chief David Skala has decided to retire. He has served Darien for the past 30 years in a variety of roles and has been a model leader and mentor to other officers in the department. He will be greatly missed but we wish him a long and happy retirement.
The New Year does bring new beginnings. Our next major task at the City is to focus on our budget. Over the past three years the City Council and I have taken a very close look at our expenditures and reduced costs in a variety of ways, focusing on core services such as policing, maintaining our roadways and our water system. Budget discussions occur in February and all residents are welcome to attend and provide input. And as always, please feel free to contact City Hall with any questions at 630-852-5000.
Have a healthy and happy New Year from all of us at the City of Darien.
Respectfully,
Kathleen Weaver
City of Darien, Mayor
