A message from the mayor

The City Council passed the fiscal year 2011 budget unanimously. During these very difficult economic times it took the cooperation of all the aldermen through many meetings to complete a budget balancing the need to maintain our infrastructure with the desire to keep tax rates low. I would like to commend the aldermen for their many hours researching and discussing the many issues that affect Darien residents. The end result was a budget that is a good solution to many challenging issues.

I would also like to compliment the Municipal Services Department, which has nearly completed the infrastructure projects for the 2010 summer. This year we repaired 5.75 miles of road, which keep our neighborhoods safe for cars and bicycles. We also continued our ditch maintenance program to eliminate stagnant water and storm water issues in front of homes. If you have any questions about our infrastructure projects or would like to learn more about future projects, please call City Hall at (630) 852-5000.

Many residents are now also receiving their property tax bills for the 2009 year. When examining your bill please keep in mind the portion that comes to the City of Darien is only a small percentage of the entire bill. Below is a chart breaking down a Darien tax bill and showing you where your money is utilized. If you have any questions about your tax bill please contact Bryon Vana, City Administrator, at (630) 353-8114.

Respectfully,

Kathleen Weaver
Mayor, City of Darien
